French and Spanish are the two languages taught by the Department of Modern Foreign Languages at Chellaston Academy. You will study one of these subjects from Year 7 onward.

Similarities between English and Spanish

There are many Spanish words that look identical or very similar to English but with a different pronunciation. Watch the video below to see how many you can work out!

Be careful: Not all words that look the same mean the same thing. For example: "Estoy embarazada" in Spanish doesn't mean what you probably think it means. 

It means "I am pregnant"!
